Inside Thomson Reuters

What does Thomson Reuters do?

Thomson Reuters "provides the intelligence, technology and human expertise you need to find trusted answers." But, what does that mean exactly?

We provide trusted data and information to professionals across 3 different industries: Legal; Tax and Accounting; and News & Media. As a large, global corporation that does many things, it's difficult to sum it all up in a few words (although we try to); so let’s review some examples of how we impact each of these industries.

We provide critical online and print information, know-how, decision tools, software and services for the legal industry.

Our Legal business serves customers in law firms, corporate legal departments, and governments, including federal, provincial, state and local government lawyers and judges, as well as investigators.

Example of how we're making an impact: The Detroit Police Department used Thomson Reuters CLEAR to find a baby who was abducted without her life-saving medication.

We provide integrated tax compliance and accounting information, software and services for professionals.

Our Tax and Accounting business serves CFOs; CPAs; local, state and national governments; law firms; tax & accounting firms; global trade organizations; educational institutions; and more.

Example of how we're making an impact: With the help of Thomson Reuters products, 19 communities in northern Sierra Leone and the nearby region are establishing land rights and securing the rainforest.

We deliver unparalleled international and national news coverage in 16 languages with speed, impartiality, and insight.

Our Media business (Reuters) provides trusted business, financial, national and international news to professionals through Thomson Reuters desktops, the world's media organizations and directly to consumers via reuters.com and Reuters TV.

Examples of how we're making an impact:

  • 1 billion people worldwide read or see Reuters news every day.
  • We turn “fake news” into old news with Reuters News Tracer which determines whether trending topics on Twitter are newsworthy and truthful.

In addition to our 3 main business units, we also play a major role in technology, the community, women's rights, and anti-slavery.

We use technology to make information more relevant and more personal and deliver it faster to our customers.

Our 12,000 software engineers, systems architects, operations experts, information security specialists, technical support analysts and data scientists around the world partner with groups across Thomson Reuters to design and develop products that we believe will significantly advance our customers’ experiences.

We make a measurable impact on the communities in which we live and work.

Since 2010, our employees have committed 515,499 volunteer hours to their local communities and in 2011 we benchmarked our carbon footprint and set targets to shrink it - by 2016 we had reduced it by over 30 percent.

We bring together global leaders from around the world to empower women and to fight slavery.

Trust Women is a fast-growing movement committed to finding real solutions to empower women and to fight slavery worldwide. The Foundation’s biggest annual event is attended by leaders of global corporations, law firms, government, pioneers and frontline activists in the field of women’s rights and anti-slavery.
